For two action-packed days this winter in Manhattan, orchestra executive directors and youth orchestra administrators came together to meet with their peers, share ideas, and learn about the latest developments in our field at the League of American Orchestras’ annual Mid-Winter Managers Meeting. Derrick Feldmann, lead researcher of the Millennial Impact Project, delivered the opening plenary, “Pathways to Engagement: Millennials and Beyond,” which provided perspectives for connecting with audiences and donors. League Vice President for Advocacy Heather Noonan provided an update about the comprehensive tax reform signed into law in December and its near- and long-term consequences on how orchestras and other nonprofits engage with donors and serve their communities. Other topics included electronic media, sexual harassment in the workplace, and diversity, equity, and inclusion—all designed to provide managers of orchestras of all sizes with strategies for success in a rapidly evolving orchestra world.
